USA II – Hamptons & NY
After lovely weeks in California we headed for the east coast. The flight with United was really good in a brand new plane. Arrived late evening at JFK, picked up our rental car and drove to Hampton Bay to stay two nights with our friends Colette and Pam that owns The Inn Spot on the Bay, a little lovely inn with a fabulous restaurant. Chef Colette and Chef Pam are two great persons that know how to entertain their guests with great food and wine. Arriving late we had no expectations regarding food and we told Colette several times that we would be fine with just a simple sandwich. Colette poured us wine and went in to the kitchen. After a while she came back with a salad with lovely juicy ribs. What a treat! A great start in Hamptons.
Waken by the seagulls hunting oysters we went downstairs for a beautiful view of the bay and breakfast made by Chef Pam. Bacon and eggs and fresh fruits. The best start of a day.
Sightseeing time! We drove out to Montauk where they filmed Jaws and walked the beach and harbor. We then headed for Sag Harbor, a little village with nice stores and restaurants. We ended up having lunch at Page at 63 Main, a delight with really friendly and professional waiters, good view of Main street and tasty food. A had the crab cake and it was just perfect.
Our sightseeing continued with beach walks and looking at million dollar houses.
Back at The Inn Spot Colette and Pam had prepared dinner and what a dinner we got. First out fried oysters. For me the first time eating fried ones and I loved them. Second course a lovely soup followed by perfectly cooked sea bass. The dessert – chocolate fondant…soooo tasty sooo good. We had local white wines that was a perfect match.
Our visit to Hamptons was short but great and we got the taste for it. We will come back!

The next day we waived goodbye and headed for Manhattan.
Checked in to Hilton Hotel Fashion District. A quite new hotel with great location. Small rooms but nice design and friendly staff.
I hadn’t been to NY in quite many years and it felt good to be back. NY is a bustling city with so much to experience.
As always when we travel to cities we walk a lot. Walking is the best way to experience a city. So we walked all over Manhattan. Didn’t ride the subway but took a cab when going down town to visit ground zero. Visiting ground zero was strange. Both sad and scary. They have really made the area a beautiful place, to morn and to remember.
I will have to come back soon because NY offers so many restaurants with great food. We visited some but way too few.
We had burgers at PJ Clarkes on 3rd Aveny 55th. Simple burgers but zoo tasty in an historic environment. Think of all the great stars that have been visiting this restaurant and bar for so many years since 1884. This is a classic that you can’t miss out on.
The bartenders really know how to mix a classic cocktail!
We had brunch at The Loeb Boathouse in Central Park. The lakeside restaurant is such a lovely place to dine at. We met the best waiter ever. He did a great job and I love being waitered by professionals. My omelette was perfect, the champagne cold and life just smiled at us.

One evening we had pasta dinner at Eataly. A fantastic store with every produce Italy have to offer. Food store mixed with restaurants. We went to the Pasta restaurant. To bad it was not as good as the store. Slow service, small portions and not that tasty as I had hoped for. I love the concept though and I will come back to try the other restaurants.
One night we did Broadway and the musical Phantom of the Opera. I had seen it in Stockholm 1991. It is one of the best musicals ever.
NY is a city that you always want to come back to and I will!
