Bodega Bay and San Francisco
Bodega Bay, cool name, is such a beautiful place north of San Francisco just on the coast. Driving there from Sebastopol was marvelous, the landscape with the rolling hills, vineyards and small villages. I had booked a room at The Inn at the Tides. I didn’t know then that this was the place where Alfred Hitchcock filmed the movie The Birds. The hotel is made up by several houses containing 4 apartments in each. All with view of the bay and the dock. Nice crew and ok rooms.
On our way to the hotel we passed a restaurant not far from The Tides that we decided to visit later. After a walk around the docks and The Tides looking at old pictures from the filming of the Birds we went for dinner at the Sandpiper. The menu looked ok but interiour almost made me leave. Really boring interiour, like an old restaurant from the 70’s. I would love to own and remodel. Well, well…. I had the fish stew and I have to say that I forgot about the boring interiour when I had my first taste. The best fish stew ever!!
After Bodega Bay we headed south to San Francisco. The drive is once more marvelous. Soo beautiful! Time for two days in S.F. Room booked at Hilton Downtown a block from Union Square. Perfect place to live when in S.F. Love the town and everything is reachable by foot or by public transportation. We headed out to explore the city for a couple of hours before our dinner with old friends at Michel Minas RN74.
RN74, a restaurant I have wanted to try for a while, is run by Michel Mina and Rajat Parr. RN74 is the highway that goes through the wine region of Burgundy. The restaurant pays homage to one of the greatest food and wine regions in the world.
This evening my old high school friends Craig and Andy joined us. We have not mer since 1986. It was great to meet again and the strange is that it felt like we met a couple of years ago.
So what did I eat? First of all, the dinner was soo good. Loved the place. Interiour, ambience and crew. Great crew!
We started with a bottle of Eveningland Pinot Noir from Sta Rita Hills. I had Frog legs “a la Troigros”, great course with black garlic, toasted cumin, crispy brioche, lemon. Next wine, Antica Terra Pinot Noir from Oregon. Great wine, will never be a wrong choice. Next course for me, the Devils gulch “Lapin a la Moutarde” a marvelous rabbit course. Braised legs & shoulder, schnitzel, mustard spaetzle, thumbalina carrots.
I really love Pinot from California but often the Pinot from Burgundy are a bit better in my taste so I had to have some Burgundy – Monthelie from Pascale Matrot. We all loved it and with it some cheese.
A great dinner in many ways!
