Sonoma wines
The day after our great dinner at Zazus we went cruising Sonoma. The landscape is asome and the small villages you drive by are soo beautiful. Now we only had one day so I just have to come back to explore the whole Sonoma for a week or two.
The first winery we stopped at was Hanna Winery. A pleasant little tasting room with nice crew greating you welcome. Started 1985 by Dr Elias Hanna it is now managed by the daughter Christine Hanna. I tasted a really nice chardonnay from Russian River with aromas of baked apple and flavors of apple and caramelized pear. It had a really nice acidity. I also the Two Ranch Red, Sonoma County, and the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley. Both nice wines. The Two Ranch Red is a blend of 11 grapes where Cab. Sauv., Merlot and Zin are the dominant grapes. It has big aromas of cinnamon, plum and vanilla and flavors are sandalwood, cherry and mulberry. The acidity is low. The 2010 Cab was bigger and more Power with 87% Cab, 12% Merlot and 1% Malbec. Here you get big tasty plums with chocolate truffles, coffee and dark plums. Really tasty and powerfull. Loved it!
We continued our trip and next stop – Dutton Estate.
Once again warmly greated. Everyone are so nice. Dutton Estate is a high quality winery run by Joe & Tracy Dutton. It started 1964 with Joes father who had grape production and 1995 they established the winery. Great brands like Kistler buy grapes from Dutton. I got to taste quite many wines and I fell for their Pinot Noir wines. My favorit was the Manzana Vineyard Pinot Noir 2010. Deep ruby color with hints of cherry and strawberry, a smokie tone that was positive. The fruit is great. Had to buy! If no one imports this wine to Sweden I will.
Sonoma wines impressed me and I understand that I have so much more to learn and to drink. I will be back!
