Weekend hike!
This weekend we decided to go hiking in the Sierras. We left a hot Fresno, 102 F (39 C) and drove up to Edison Lake. You pass Table mountains and the beautiful Shaver Lake and you enter the wild Sierras. After China Peak you soon reach the road to Edison Lake, a one lane road that is more than bad but at the same time such a fantastic experience. After one hour on the road that is more like a dirt road you arrive to Edison Lake and Vermilion Resort and campground at 7900 feet (2408 meters).
We set up our camp, raised tents and headed for the restaurant. The Vermilion resort is not a fancy place, it is a hikers place and a really good one. The staff are friendly and great story tellers. The food – Asume! Everything tastes so much better in the mountains 🙂
We got a table outside and ordered Fish tacos, steak, pork chops and chicken. I had the fish tacos and the best ever. Dinner ended with the house Apple pie. I love apple pie and this was soo good!
Woke early the next day, 05:30, and went for a walk with my camera around and in Lake Edison. The sun was on its way up over the mountains. A beautiful morning, a morning to remember.
My little american brother George made breakfast and marvelous one. We got breakfast burritos made on the camping stove. Eggs, picco de gallo, bacon and corn tortillas. I great way to start our morning. To come was our hike up the mountain to Devils Bathtub at 9300 feet (2834 m). It took us 3 hours to reach the lake but worth every step. Quite easy hike at start but it gets quite steep at the end. The surroundings are outstanding. The lake Devils Bathtub is surrounded by mountains and some peak at 10500 feet (3200 m) and both sandy beach and flat rocks. We took a well earned swim at the arrival. Temp. around 63 F (17 C), had our lunch bagels and a glas of wine from Lohr before a nice rest on the warm cliffs.
On our way down I decided that I wanted to run down and left my friends. The run down was great and needed. We eat so much good food that I had to run 🙂
When dowm from the mountain I headed for the resort for a cold beer, Half Dome from the TS Brewing Company. I really liked the beer and I had waited for it.
Dinner at the camp site. We had steak on the bbq together with caesar sallad. I wouldn’t say that it was the best ever but beeing outside at 7900 feet eating with friends makes it all verry special and great…..probably the best ever 🙂
Food – just what we want and need. But food can be served in many ways and the value can sometimes be really bad…but also great. This weekend the food was asume even if it wasn’t served at a cool big city restaurant or at a small deli in southern France.
I can higly recommend everyone a trip to Lake Edison and to Devils Bathtub.
